Welcome to Plants Direct Garden Centre, Hertfordshire
Plants Direct is a family run Garden Centre in Hertfordshire supplying the public with quality plants grown in our nurseries, including high quality roses and our award-winning hanging baskets; all at very reasonable prices.
We specialise in bedding and patio plants, herbaceous perennials, herbs, climbers, shrubs, alpines, and fruit. We also stock trees, conifers, heathers, and larger specimen plants sourced from around the country.
Our garden centre is situated between Radlett and Watford with a customer base in Hertfordshire and North London. We produce the majority of our plants in our nurseries, ensuring our plants are sustainably sourced. Other plants not from the nurseries are carefully sourced and selected from our associate nurseries.
Wherever possible, Plants Direct Garden Centre uses reduced peat compost and minimises chemical pesticide and fertiliser input, utilising organic fertilisers such as Maxicrop and natural pest control.
We are a member of the Horticultural Trade Association (HTA).
We sell and accept National Garden Gift Vouchers.
Current News
Autumn
Change of weather means change of strategy in the garden. Rake up fallen leaves and compost them. Dead head flowering plants to tidy them but to also initiate further flowering. Still water and feed baskets and pots to keep them going until the first frosts. Prepare ground / containers for Autumn planting. Good time , now the soil has been softened by the rain to plant Spring flowering bulbs (plenty in stock).
Summer Maintenance
After a very wet Winter followed by a hot dry spring the soil is spent of nutrients especially around greedy plants like laurel. So fertiliser and manure needs to be added to replenish ( the latter will also help retain moisture ). Frequent watering as well is required because the sub soil is dry. Water newly planted plants daily until established, hanging baskets twice a day.
Current News
We are currently changing over from Summer to Autumn mode so in the coming weeks we will have on display Autumn bedding plants and shrubs.
